Kindred Hospital Dallas Central Cuts Ribbon on New Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit

DALLAS, TX (August 16, 2022) – Kindred Hospital Dallas Central held ribbon cutting ceremonies yesterday for its new rehabilitation unit inside the hospital, located at 8050 Meadow Road. The acute rehabilitation unit (ARU), which will begin accepting patients August 22, helps adults who have experienced a loss of function or disability due to injury or illness.

The 14-bed ARU includes a new gym with state-of-the-art equipment used in rehabilitative therapies and features all private rooms for patients recovering from conditions that include stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, orthopedic injury, neurological conditions, amputation and trauma. The new unit provides the intensive, interdisciplinary clinical and rehabilitation services necessary for improved function and independence, facilitating patients’ recovery so they can be discharged and return to their homes.

“Adding a dedicated, acute-level rehabilitation unit to our hospital increases the community’s access to much-needed rehabilitative care and complements the critical care services provided at Kindred Hospital Dallas Central,” said Abiola Anyebe, CEO of the hospital. “This new service enables our facility to provide a broader range of acute-level, physician-led rehabilitation expertise while avoiding the disruption of transferring a patient to a separate facility. With enhanced capabilities, expertise and clinical integration – all under one roof – we are better positioned to deliver superior outcomes for our most clinically complex patients.”

Within the new ARU, an interdisciplinary team that includes physicians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists and other health professionals design a treatment plan to help a patient restore lost ability and function. Intensive therapy and monitoring that are part of the plan help patients regain skills more quickly in a safe, controlled environment. The goal is to support patients while they recover, so they can return home and resume normal activities.

Patients receive a minimum of three hours of therapy each day for at least five days a week under the direction of a physiatrist − a doctor specialized in rehabilitation and physical medicine − and 24/7 nursing care. The rehabilitation unit provides services to both Kindred Hospital Dallas Central patients as well as patients from other healthcare providers in the community.

Kindred Hospital Dallas Central is part of ScionHealth. The new units are managed and staffed by Kindred Hospital Rehabilitation Services − a business unit of LifePoint Health − which delivers clinical success and outstanding patient outcomes for hospital-based programs nationwide.

Kindred Hospital Dallas Central and Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) is a 54-bed hospital offering 40 long-term acute care hospital (LTACH) beds and 14 acute inpatient rehabilitation beds. The LTACH provides the same in-depth care you would receive in a traditional hospital but treats chronically, and critically ill patients with specialized care who require an extended stay in a hospital setting, including one negative pressure room. Our 14-bed ARU is designed for people who have experienced the debilitating effects of an acute injury, impairment or illness and like the LTACH, we partner with your physician and offer 24-hour clinical care seven days a week so you can start your journey to wellness.
